Australians visit Danish Forest Kindergarten

May 01, 2016

The Australian TV station SBS has recently visited Denmark to feature Danish skovbørnehaver (forest kindergartens) in the programme "Dateline". The phenomenon is mainly known in Scandinavia, however, it is also becoming popular in Australia where it is often referred to as "bush kindergartens"). The programme raises many questions, such as if it is a better way to learn being able to run freely in the forrests. And then there is also the safety aspect. Is it safe enough for the children to be left out of sight of the pedagogues, while climbing trees, cutting sticks, sitting at an open fire, etc.
The programme may not give a full answer to these questions, however, the Australian visitors did go back less shocked as when they arrived and with a great fascination of the forrest kindergarten idea.
